Toothbrush Drive
The homeless in Houston have many needs, but among their greatest needs right now is an item most of us take for granted every day: a toothbrush.
On Sunday mornings in June and July, each Adult Bible Fellowship will be collecting new toothbrushes to give to the Way Station, a homeless ministry at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church.
So please pick up an extra toothbrush - some extra toothpaste, too, if you can - and bring it to Church. You can be assured that your simple gesture of generosity will brighten someone's smile in more ways than one! For more information, please contact Sonia Garza at 713/985-3830. For more information about the Way Station, contact Anya McInnis.

Reading Readiness Seminar for Parents of Young Children
Introduce your child to the power of the written word.
This interactive seminar will instruct parents on how to introduce emergent and young readers to the power of the written word and encourage their love for reading through a one-on-one storytelling process.* Parents will receive effective instruction in reading-aloud and story comprehension, learn games to play with storybooks, and try out the storytelling process. Come and learn how to start a tradition with your child that will guarantee their future success in reading.
The camp will be held on Saturday, August 2, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM; bring a sack lunch. The fee is $120 for parishioners, and $130 for non-Church members. For more information, call the Activity Center at 713/621-8625 or click here to download a PDF of the registration form.
Lauren Burrow holds a Masters in Reading and Language Arts and is a recent graduate of Rice University's School Literacy and Culture Project: The Storytelling Project. She has taught early childhood for five years and is entering her third year at St. Martin's Episcopal Children's Center.
*The process of storytelling meets TEA guidelines for the development of young children's literacy; is essential to children's cognitive, physical, and psychosocial developments amd all-around success as students; and can allow preschoolers and young children to build their vocabularies, gain background knowledge about a variety of topics, and have fun with books!

On Sunday, August 3, James 1 challenges us to be "Doers of the Word" and not merely hearers.

Cursillo at Camp Allen (off campus)
Consider attending a Cursillo weekend in 2008! Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning "short course." A Cursillo weekend is a short course in Christian living that can help individuals live the Christian life more faithfully and more effectively. In the Diocese of Texas, over 9,000 have found the weekend at Camp Allen to be a joy-filled experience, while learning the Cursillo method and meeting people from across the Diocese. You will return to join the Cursillo community at St. Martin's, now totaling 100 parishioners, and meet regularly with members in a reunion group.
Cursillo weekend dates are:
August 7-10
November 6-9
The cost is $210.00/person, which includes room, meals and all materials. The November date is at Campsite III with bunk-style rooms for men and women for only $125/person. A limited number of scholarships are available. Download applications at www.texascursillo.org or contact the Rev. Dr. John K. Graham at 713/985-3815.
