"Feed My Sheep" Programs

"Feed My Sheep" programs consist of volunteers for our “Family to Family” and “Group to Group” programs who take meals and gifts to families and others in need. (family friendly)

Agape Emergency Program - help families in need sent by local hospitals and social agencies.

Family to Family Program - St. Martin’s Episcopal families are paired with a Houston family in need at Mother’s Day and Christmas. Our St. Martin’s families will meet the family in need by taking them dinner or gifts. This is an opportunity to establish a relationship with a family in need. (family friendly)

Group to Group - Coordinated "group oriented" efforts between St. Martin’s parishioners and agencies such as playing Bingo, serving meals, and making crafts. Past agencies include: Angel Tree, The Beacon, Bo’s Place, CCSC, Kids' Meals, New Hope Housing, LOTS, Prison Fellowship, St. Martin’s Mentors, Westside Homeless Partnership, and Young Lives. Emergency Reponse team – prepare, deliver and serve meals to individuals in emergency shelters as a result of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane.

Children, Youth and Families

The Angel Tree Program - collect toys, clothes and other gifts at Christmas for needy children and their families at DePelchin Children’s Center. (family friendly)

Bo's Place - offers ongoing grief support groups to families with children ages 3 to 18 who experienced the death of a loved one. Volunteers are needed for, but not limited to, Valentine’s Day and Christmas dinners, children’s gift bags and table decorations. Teens age 15 and older can work in the kitchen; adults at least 22 years of age can serve as group facilitators. Boys & Girls Country - provide high quality residential care in a Christian environment for children in crisis, giving them love, security, a sense of self-worth and opportunities that will prepare them for a successful life. Volunteers are needed to sponsor a cottage, tutor children and donate canned goods.

Child Advocates - advocates for abused and neglected children through the court, child protective and educational systems; makes certain these children are living in safe, permanent homes and receiving rehabilitative services. Volunteers are needed to serve as advocates and make Christmas stockings. You may contribute to this program by purchasing a greeting card from The Giving Tree.

Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) - assist the poor, hungry, disabled and otherwise needy; provides a Back-to-School and Christmas program for low-income children, emergency assistance for needy families, job training, and school vision screening. Volunteers are needed to sort clothes, stock the food pantry and participate in annual food drives. (family friendly)

College Prayer and Care Team - parents of college kids gather for fellowship and prayers and to pack “care packages” for the collegians and other groups.

Comfort Care Armoire Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital - an armoire stocked full of items useful during times of grief. (family friendly)

Elves and More - provide multicultural, impoverished children bicycles at Christmas. Volunteers are needed to help build bicycles in December. Food for the Homeless - provide a handout containing a non-perishable food item along with the Houston/Harris County Crisis hot-line number for you to keep in your car and give to homeless persons you encounter on the street. (family friendly)

Homes of St. Mark - provide children and families services for family formation, preservation and change, including foster care and adoption services.

Kids' Meals - provides and distributes nutritious meals to impoverished children, Monday-Friday. The Church staff makes over 500 sandwiches each month. (family friendly)

Outreach Collection Boxes - located in the Activity Center and St. Elisabeth's Refectory.

St. Martin’s Mentors - assist children at Yellowstone Academy with reading skills and help the children understand, through clear teaching and affectionate sharing, that reading enriches their lives. You may contribute to this program by purchasing a greeting card from The Giving Tree.

Young Lives - teams mature Christian women with teenage mothers for individual mentoring and monthly meetings.

Youth Ministry - offers a variety of summer mission experiences, grades 6-12, striving for a deeper understanding of our faith and deepening of our relationship with God. They reach out to individuals from Galveston to Chicago to Mexico by working in soup kitchens, home construction or painting murals. For information, visit our Youth Web page.

Adults

Assisted Living Ministry - the Assisted Living Ministry is a group of Lay Pastoral Visitors that goes to nursing/retirement homes each Sunday morning and conducts a service for the residents. Training is required. For information, visit our Pastoral Care Web page.

Blanket Ladies - this group makes cotton flannel receiving blankets for newborn infants at local charity hospitals. For information, visit our Pastoral Care Web page.

The Culinary Sevice Guild - works out of our kitchen facility at St. Martin’s to provide food service on campus and to our outreach feeding programs through the year.

New Hope Housing - offers life-stablizing affordable apartment homes with a sense of dignity for adults who live singly on limited incomes. Our Feed My Sheep “Group to Group” team serves dinner and plays Bingo with the residents at Valentine’s Day and Christmas. Prayer Shawl Ministry - their purpose is to knit God's love, care and warmth into their shawls and have them blessed before giving them away. For information, visit our Pastoral Care Web page.

Prison Ministry - partners with local churches in reaching out to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families. Volunteers participate in a Christmas party. 

Rally the Troops - provides support for our troops overseas with care packages and cards. (family friendly)

Young Adult Ministry - Young adults, age 21 to 30,  foster community while doing the ministry Christ has called us to do. For information, visit our Young Adults Web page.

Health

Alzheimer’s Caregivers' Support Group - brings people together to share in the everyday experiences of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. For information, visit our Pastoral Care Web page. You may contribute to this program by purchasing a greeting card from The Giving Tree.

Epiphany Community Health Outreach Services (ECHOS) - an Episcopal ministry that provides health and social services for the underserved of southwest Houston.

Amazing Place: Enriching Lives through Fellowship, Memory Care and Wellness - provides a safe, spiritual and nurturing program for older adults with mild to moderate Alzheimer's or similar dementia, while offering respite, education and support to their caregivers and families. (Formerly known as The Seniors Place, Memory Care Day Center)

St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Auxiliary – volunteer opportunties to assist hospital professionals, work in the gift shop, be a patient liaison, or serve as an emergency room check-in clerk. Commitment asked is 3 hours each week, but is flexible.

St. Martin’s Health Fair - annual summer health fair providing underserved children with needed immunizations and needed dental and medical screening for children and adults. Information on how to enroll in insured medical programs is provided. Volunteers are needed for the health fair and to pack school supplies. Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers, SW - assist the frail and elderly of southwest Houston providing transportation for medical appointments, shopping, garden and yard work.

Homeless

The Beacon – a day shelter in downtown Houston providing the homeless with a meal, laundry services, shower facilities and assistance.

Covenant  House - provides services and shelter to homeless, runaway, "throwaway" and at-risk youth under the age of 21. Volunteers are needed to tutor and mentor.

Lord of the Streets Episcopal Church (LOTS) - ministers to individuals living in the Houston area who are homeless and disadvantaged or in transition. St. Martin’s serves breakfast once a month at Trinity Church, delivers food for the women’s Bible study group, and gathers clothing donations. Mission of Yahweh - Christian shelter ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of homeless women and children. St. Martin’s provides donations to the resale shop, The Sunshine Shop.

Open Door Mission - provides shelter, food, clothing and encouragement for homeless, addicted and disabled men.  

Westside Homeless Partnership - program designed to empower families with children within the Spring Branch Independent School Disrict area to achieve financial self-sufficiency and permanent housing through personal effort, education and growth. Volunteers participate in a holiday party at Christmas and in the spring. (family friendly)

World Missions

Amistad Mission, Bolivia - a Christian partnership between North Americans and Bolivians to meet the medical, nutritional, educational, public health, and spiritual needs of the Quechua natives, and raise orphaned and abandoned Bolivian children through independent adulthood in a Christian family/community environment. Benevolent Mission International - take ophthalmic services, facilities, supplies and personnel to Third World countries to restore sight and hope to people that cannot afford or find help for visual problems.

Conroe Lions Nooners Group - clean and repair donated eye glasses, determine the prescriptions, and package them for mission trips to underserved communities in the Third World. Place glasses in the outreach collection boxes in the Activity Center.

Episcopal Medical Mission to Corinto, Honduras - sponsored by the Diocese of Texas. Offers essential medical services and ongoing assistance to residents of this remote village and surrounding communities. You may contribute to this program by purchasing a greeting card from The Giving Tree.

Houston Food Bank - feeds 80,000 hungry people each week by distributing food. St. Martin’s holds food fairs at various locations around the city with food provided by the Houston Food Bank.

Texas Water Mission - sends water well drilling missions sponsored by the Diocese of West Texas to Honduras and Mexico to provide safe drinking water and educate villagers in hygiene and sanitation. (family friendly)
