Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha Course meets once a week for 10 weeks, and includes an amazing retreat. You will enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple ... questions like - Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Alpha is for anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets the eye. People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life. Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the Alpha course. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome.

The Alpha Course will kick off for the Houston metro western region on Sunday, September 12 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Several churches within our area will come together to make this ten-week introduction of the basics of Christianity to as many people as possible who are living or working in Houston. The Alpha Course will be available at different times and locations, one of them being St. Martin's Episcopal Church (listed above).

Tue., Sep 28Holy Strollers in September
Holy Strollers is a ministry of St. Martin's, providing a network of care for mothers of newborns to 5-year-olds, as well as expectant mothers. Moms within the parish family and from the greater Houston metro area are discovering this life-giving community. Through Christian spiritual guidance and education, activities such as play-dates, moms-night-outs, family picnics and lectures, Holy Strollers offers support in a casual environment...all the while having a heck of a good ol' time!

  • Speaker: Jan Dollinger, Child Development Specialist
Date: Tuesday, September 28, 10:00-11:30 AM
    Location: Bride's Room
One of Holy Strollers' all-time favorite speakers, Jan will teach how discipline is much more than the difference between using a spoon and using a timeout. To discipline means to teach; as a parent, you are teaching acceptable behaviors and giving clear limits to unacceptable behavior. The message: parents need to be realistic, loving, firm and consistent. Come see what that entails! (Childcare provided).

Wed., Sep 29Living the Questions: Women in Dialogue
Pat Graham leads group dialogue sessions for women interested in sharing questions and seeking wisdom about God's work in the world and in their lives.

We all have periods of spiritual change. In these times, we are called to embrace our challenges with patience, always knowing that God will lead us through them, not always to easy answers, but certainly toward places of new growth.

The group is open to any women embracing change and challenges in their spiritual journey towards wholeness. It meets every Wednesday from 10:00-11:30 AM in Room 217, Payne Education Center. Come to just one or to every session. If you have questions about the class, please contact Pat Graham.

From note writing to planning events, there are plenty of small and large responsibilities available. If you'd like to join us, please contact our leader Natalie Castellanos at holystrollers@stmartinsepiscopal.org.
