Programs for Men

Sun., May 26Serve as an Usher
Do you still remember when you visited St. Martin's for the very first time? Chances are you do, and you also probably remember that one of the first people to greet and assist you would have been one of our wonderful Ushers.

If you've ever thought about joining this team of friendly and engaging folks, now is the time to volunteer! Older teens and young adults are welcome to serve as Ushers, too. Our Ushers serve on rotating teams, according to their schedule and service time preferences. No one is expected to usher every Sunday. The work of the Usher ministry is not difficult, but it is highly visible and important. The Ushers are integral to making sure visitors feel welcome and that all aspects of our worship services flow smoothly.

Becoming an Usher is a terrific way to get to know others while providing valuable service to our Parish. Our Ushers enjoy a strong camaraderie with one another, and get together regularly for fellowship. Training is provided, and no prior experience is needed. Simply contact Kristin Early in the Vice-Rector's office to sign up today!

To volunteer or for more information, contact Kristin Early at 713/985-3848.

Thu., May 30Men of St. Martin's: fellowship and weekly Bible study + special guest speaker on the third Thursday of each month
The Men of St. Martin's group is open to all men of the Parish (all ages), and any male guests and visitors. We gather each Thursday from 7:00-8:00 AM in Bagby Parish Hall for breakfast ($5.00), a special guest speaker or brief Bible reflection, and then we break into groups for discussion, fellowship and mutual support. Reservations are not required! While there are several unscheduled events during the year, we tend to gather for three primary reasons - study and mutual support, service and fellowship.

Thursday Morning Bible Study and Speaker Series
On Thursday, September 6, 2012 the Men of St. Martin's group begins its weekly Bible Study and Speaker series. We start promptly at 7:00 AM in Bagby Parish Hall with a hot breakfast and time for fellowship. We will begin a year-long study of The Gospel of John, using the study guide by the Rt. Rev. N.T. Wright, John: 26 Studies for Individuals and Groups, which is available in the Bookstore & Gift Shoppe. Once a month, a featured speaker will come to share some aspect of his faith in daily living. We always end promptly at 8:00 AM. Parishioners always are encouraged to bring new friends and guests.

Regular Service Opportunities
When we gather at our weekly meetings, we always provide different avenues for the Men of St. Martin's group to serve in and through the larger St. Martin's family. Last year, our group made about 10,000 sandwiches for hungry kids in our community, through Kids' Meals. The Men of St. Martin's group also is encouraged to participate in mentoring opportunities at Lord of the Streets, Yellowstone Academy and as volunteers at Church Under The Bridge.

Social Gatherings While fellowship and fun are part of all of our gatherings, throughout the year we also host small and large get-togethers for deepening and strengthening our relationships with one another, and for simply having a good time! Like all Men of St. Martin's events, these are open to all men and their guests and are publicized throughout the year.

Sun., Jul 07Serve as an Usher
