Prayer & Meditation

Wed., Feb 10Wednesday Morning Prayer Group
Please join us in the very special privilege that God has given each of us as His followers: participating in prayer in His plans for our Church. We meet each week in the Activity Center Family Room from 8:00-8:30 AM to pray specifically for wisdom for our Rector, the clergy and the staff as they direct our life here at St. Martin's. And we also include prayers for those who are sick and hurting in our Parish as well as specific needs for our own families and friends. It has been a joy to watch God at work as He answers our prayers. It's a great way to start the day. Contact Janie Putman.

Note: This group will not meet on holidays or during Church campus closings. Please contact the group leader for updates.
Thu., Feb 11Christian Meditation Group
Christian meditation, or contemplative prayer, is about learning to sit still, to be quiet and just be with God, attending only to Him. It's a prayer of loving attention, holy listening, and puts aside our thoughts and plans in order to embrace the sacrament of the present moment. For instruction and practice, join the Christian Meditation Group on Thursdays, 6:30-7:15 PM, in the Parlor. Call Pat Bodley, or just come. If you are new to meditation, try to arrive at 6:15 PM.

Note: This group will not meet on holidays or during Church campus closings. Please contact the group leader for updates.
Sun., Feb 14Healing Prayer (OSL)
Members of the Order of St. Luke the Physician (OSL) will be available for healing prayer, or prayer for any need, each Sunday from 10:15 AM-11:00 AM in the Chapel.

Note: This group will not meet on holidays or during Church campus closings. Please contact the group leader for updates.
Mon., Feb 15Global Prayer Group
Current events can leave us overwhelmed and full of questions. We have found that when we gather each week to pray, we are participating in the plan that God has for our world rather than worrying about things out of our control. Although we will continue to focus on our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, we have felt the need to pray for many of the suffering and forgotten people all over the world. This gives us a chance to respond in prayer to the commission of Christ to reach the ends of the earth in His name.

Please join the Global Prayer Group* any Monday from 4:00-5:00 PM in Room 207-209, Payne Education Center. For information, call Nancy Doss.

* This group was formerly called Prayer for Iraq.

Note: This group will not meet on holidays or during Church campus closings. Please contact the group leader for updates.
Wed., Feb 17A Week of Prayer (youth)
Every great epoch of growth in the history of the Church has been brought about by prayer. The Church was born on Pentecost by those who "joined together constantly in prayer." [Acts 1:14] Starting in the 18th century, Moravian monks prayed 24 hours a day for more than a hundred years.

During the week of February 17-24, the youth of St. Martin's will join together for a week of 24 hour prayer. We will take one hour shifts and ensure that at least one member of our community is praying at all times.

Contact Barry Moore at 713/985-3842 for more information.
Wed., Feb 17Ash Wednesday Prayer Vigil
All parishioners are invited to join the Daughters of the King (DOK) and the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) for the Ash Wednesday 24-hour Prayer Vigil on February 17, 2010. The Chapel will be open for prayer, 7:00 AM-8:00 PM. For more information, contact Lynn Post or send an e-mail to DOK@StMartinsEpiscopal.org.
