This unique event is designed especially for children to encounter the life and ministry of Jesus, through a life-sized, authentic biblical market. Children will meet with their "tribes" to study ancient Jewish traditions, and come to a greater understanding of what took place during the time that Jesus walked the earth. During each session, the tribes will travel to the city, to experience various crafts and skills, including Hebrew school, a visit to the produce and spice market, or the bakery. They may visit the various "vendors" including basket weaving, woodworking, metal working, pottery and much, much more. While in the city they will encounter Jesus and His disciples, as they go about their daily lives of spreading the gospel. Sat., Aug 01 Calling young women (age 10-13) to form a Junior Daughters of the King (DOK) Chapter
St. Martin's is calling all young women, age 10-13, to help form a Junior chapter of the Daughters of the King.

We are Junior members of the Order of the Daughters of the King. A Junior Chapter is a group of three or more young women and girls who make a promise to pray daily and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. We are under the guidance and support of our Senior Chapter. A Senior Daughter serves as the Directress and is our leader. Junior Daughters are girls and young women from 10 to 13 years of age. Membership is extended to baptized girls.

Our chapter gives us a special opportunity to grow in love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, while serving our Church and community. We experience the joy of belonging to Christian fellowship with friends and mentors. We study the Bible, discuss our faith, support each other, and pray for the needs of our community and our world.

We wear a silver cross with the initials FHS -- For His Sake -- as a symbol of our promise. For Christ's sake we pray, we serve, and we reach out in love to all.

For more information, contact Marjorie Littlejohn.
Sat., Aug 01 The Hope Cookbook Benefits St. Vincent's House in Galveston
The 313-page cookbook containing 537 recipes has been published to raise funds for St. Vincent's House in Galveston. The friends and families of St. Christopher Episcopal Church in League City sent in the recipes. There are some celebrity submissions as well, including recipes from Barbara Bush, Susan Baker, Ruth Ryan, Maria Pappas, Kathy Cooper of Cooper Farms, and Anna Ginsberg (Pillsbury Bake-Off Winner). The cookbook is beautifully illustrated with original photography taken by local high school photojournalism student Kerri Tenet of League City. The books sell for $20 each plus $5 for shipping and handling and all proceeds will go to St. Vincent's House. The cover art is an excerpt from the primitive style mural surrounding the clinic door and depicts a dove holding an olive branch in its beak flying above a rainbow. That image was chosen in the early summer of 2008, pre-hurricane season, and is even more appropriate post Hurricane Ike.

To order a copy, send a check in the amount of $25 to St. Christopher Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 852, League City, TX, 77574, or call Ally Hardick at 832/277-0765.
