ECW Spring Brunch featuring Guest Speaker, Jeanne Celestine Lakin, Award-Winning Author; Founder, One Million Orphans

Jeanne Celestine Lakin is an award-winning author and survivor of the Rwandan genocide, which occurred in 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. Over the course of 100 days, Lakin, a Tutsi, narrowly evaded the militiamen. After surviving the genocide, she found herself in an American classroom learning an unfamiliar language and bearing the deep wounds caused by the horror she witnessed. Determined not to be defined by her past, she has earned multiple degrees, and became a specialist in international adoption and higher education. Today she is an accomplished author, inspirational speaker and international advisor at Lone Star College.
