Bagby Parish Hall

This class focuses on Biblical, theological and historical topics that engage the mind and heart in worship of God and living a life of faith.

Opening the Prayer Book
Sundays, July 12-Aug. 16

Now that we’ve been opening up the Book of Common Prayer to Morning and Evening Prayer, some have been asking: Why are these services so important to our Anglican tradition? What do they mean? How can I pray them at home? And what else is there to discover in the prayer book if I open the rest of it up too? In this six-week series, we’ll dive into the riches of our prayer book, exploring its theological meaning, its history, the rich musical tradition it gave rise to (like choral Evensong and Anglican chant), and very practical questions designed to help you own the prayer book as a devotional text for every day at home, not just at church.

July 12: The Rev. Dane Boston, Opening the Prayer Book
July 19: The Rev. Gregory Cross, Morning and Evening Prayer
July 29: The Rev. Dr. Jordan Hylden, Baptism and the Holy Eucharist
Aug. 2:  The Rev. Dr. Jordan Hylden, From Weddings to Funerals
Aug. 9:  Mr. Keith Lathrom, The Prayer Book and Anglican Sacred Music
Aug. 16: The Rev. Sharron Cox, Keeping Liturgical Time

The Gospel of John
Sundays, beginning Sept. 13

In this new series, we’ll explore what may be the most well beloved book of the Bible. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son.” “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” What would our faith be without these and so many other texts found only in John? Join us each week this fall to read through the highlights of John’s Gospel from start to finish, as we begin another program year grounded in the Gospel.
