This class focuses on Biblical, theological and historical topics that engage the mind and heart in worship of God and living a life of faith.
Beautiful Savior: Encountering Christ through the Arts
Sundays through Aug. 17
“O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,” we are told (1 Chron. 16:29). In Bible studies, we spend a lot of time seeking to understand the truth about God and the goodness of God’s will for our lives. But while the beauty of worship is a deep part of who we are at St. Martin’s, we spend less time reflecting on how beauty draws us to God.
Join us for a six-week series led primarily by local artists, poets, musicians, and writers, including Joy Hilley, our Riverway artist-in-residence, and
Dr. Matthew Boyleston, poet and professor at Houston Christian University. We’ll explore themes and questions such as: How do we hear the Gospel in a great sacred musician like Bach, or in modern poets like Eliot and Auden? How do we see the Gospel in the visual arts?
Join us this summer!

July 13: Visual Art Through the Ages with Joy Hilley
July 20: Why the Arts are Important to Church Life with the Rev. Wesley Arning and Joy Hilley

Genesis: The First Word
Led by the Rev. Dane Boston
Sundays, Sept. 14-Nov. 2
What better way to start a new season with our new Rector than starting together with the first page of Scripture! For eight weeks, the Rev. Dane Boston will lead us through the story of Genesis. It all begins with the God who spoke creation into being with His Word: join us as we begin by reading God’s Word from the beginning!
The Return of the King: From the Exodus to the Incarnation
Led by St. Martin’s Clergy and guests
Sundays, Nov. 16, Nov. 30-Dec. 21
As the year progresses, we will continue exploring the entire narrative of Scripture during the Rev. Boston’s first year as St. Martin’s Fifth Rector. In the five Sundays leading up to Christmas, we will focus on what follows Genesis, culminating in the momentous event of God’s entrance into the biblical story: the birth of Christ.
