This class focuses on Biblical, theological and historical topics that engage the mind and heart in worship of God and living a life of faith.
The Return of the King: From the Exodus to the Incarnation
As the year progresses, we will continue exploring the entire narrative of Scripture during the Rev. Boston’s first year as St. Martin’s Fifth Rector. In the five Sundays leading up to Christmas, we will focus on what follows Genesis, culminating in the momentous event of God’s entrance into the biblical story: the birth of Christ.

The Humble King: The Life and Teachings of Jesus
Sundays, Jan. 4-Feb. 15
Continuing with the story of the Bible we began last fall with Genesis, during Epiphany, we’ll focus each week on key aspects of the life and teachings of Jesus. The King of the kingdom of God finally arrives in Israel — what does He show us about what life together in God’s kingdom is like? How does it help us better understand His atoning work on the Cross, which we’ll study together in Lent?
Lift High the Cross: The Atoning Work of Christ
Sundays, Feb. 22-March 22
In the service for Good Friday, we say together a centuries-old prayer attributed to St. Francis: “We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.” During Lent, we’ll move from our walk through the life and teachings of Jesus to focus on the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. What does it mean to say that Christ has redeemed the world by His holy cross? Join us for this six-week Lenten series as we reflect on the central saving mystery of our faith.
World Upside Down: Living the Resurrection
Sundays, April 19-May 17
After the cross and the resurrection of Jesus, now what? As we keep following the story of the Bible, we’ll talk about the birth of the Church in the book of Acts, the Gospel of grace in the letters of Paul, the shape of the Christian life and, finally, the Bible’s conclusion with the book of Revelation. And we’ll recap what we’ve learned this year about the whole story of the Bible, as a single story with the Gospel of our risen Lord and Savior at its heart.
