St. Martin’s Day

Our Patron Saint: Saint Martin – Soldier, Priest, Bishop and Servant of God!

Born in 316 in modern-day Hungary, Martin grew up in Italy and joined the Roman army like his father. But after converting to Christianity, his faith clashed with military life—he resigned, was jailed as a traitor, then released. Choosing a humble path, he became a monk, founded Gaul’s first monastery, and traveled by donkey and boat to share the message of Jesus.

Renowned for healing prayers, Martin was made Bishop of Tours in 371 and became one of Christianity’s most beloved evangelists. He died in 397, and his legacy lives on—more churches in the Middle Ages bore his name than any other saint. For over 1,600 years, Nov. 11 has been celebrated as St. Martin’s Day.
